[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] Public outrage is growing after it was revealed that a man in his 60s living in a residential area in Busan brutally beat his dog to death with a blunt weapon, claiming the dog kept biting him.

On the 18th, MBN reported that the man beat the mother dog to death with a blunt weapon in front of her puppies.

According to MBN, when police and animal protection groups entered the man's house, a Pungsan dog was found hanging on the rooftop of the house, dead with blood flowing from its head.

Bloodstains were also found in various places inside the doghouse, indicating abuse had taken place there as well.

The dog's owner stated, "I was bitten about three times, so I lost my temper," and said he hit the dog's head more than ten times with a blunt weapon to kill it. He added, "I couldn't give a dog that bites people to someone else, so I killed it."

At the time the man killed the dog, two puppies were watching the scene right in front of him.

Regarding this, a representative of an animal protection organization said, "Because the puppies witnessed their mother being brutally beaten and screaming as she died, they could develop emotional trauma. The puppies were also effectively abused."

Under the Animal Protection Act, even when slaughtering livestock, other animals are not allowed to witness the killing.

The police have booked the man on charges of violating the Animal Protection Act.
