[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] The Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and the Korea Women's Human Rights Institute announced on the 20th that they will hold policy forums and public participation events to eradicate prostitution from the 19th to the 25th in observance of Prostitution Eradication Week.
According to the Act on the Prevention of Prostitution and Protection of Victims, Prostitution Eradication Week has been observed annually for one week from September 19 to 25 since 2015, and this year it will be conducted online.
On the 23rd at 4 p.m., an online policy forum on prostitution prevention will be held under the theme "Strengthening Support Measures for Youth Victims of Sexual Exploitation." Promotional content such as public service announcement videos, posters, and leaflets based on the theme of Prostitution Eradication Week will also be produced.
In addition, public participation events on social networking services (SNS) will be promoted to disseminate messages about prostitution prevention in everyday life.
Hwang Yoon-jung, Director of the Rights Promotion Bureau at the Korea Women's Human Rights Institute, said, "The interest and actions of each and every one of us are the fastest way to eradicate prostitution," adding, "I hope that this Prostitution Eradication Week will serve as an opportunity for our society to become safer and more gender-equal."
