Global Green Growth Supporters Launch Ceremony... 30 Supporters Appointed Across 10 Teams

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 18th that it held the online inauguration ceremony for the 9th term of the Global Green Growth Supporters.

The 'Global Green Growth Supporters' is an initiative started in 2012 to increase young people's interest in green growth and our climate change and environmental diplomacy, and to support their growth into international experts in related fields. This year marks its 9th iteration.

This year, about 500 domestic university (graduate) students applied to join the 'Global Green Growth Supporters.' Thirty students from 10 selected teams were appointed as 'Global Green Growth Supporters.'

The students selected as supporters will form human networks and gain knowledge through meetings with experts in the environmental field during approximately three months of activities, working together to find solutions to environmental issues.

Climate Change Ambassador Yoo Yeon-cheol attended the online inauguration ceremony and delivered a welcoming speech. In his speech, Ambassador Yoo explained the government's efforts to respond to the climate crisis and promote green growth, including the Green New Deal and hosting the P4G Summit, and urged the young people selected as 'Global Green Growth Supporters' to become advocates of inclusive 'green growth.'

The young people selected as Global Green Growth Supporters will, starting from this inauguration ceremony until the end of November this year, participate in various activities including △ lectures by experts on green growth and climate change/environmental issues △ participation in the 'Global Youth Climate Challenge' hosted by the National Climate and Environment Council △ production of social media [SNS] content (such as card news and videos) related to green growth and climate change/environmental issues. Supporters who complete all activities will be awarded a certificate of completion signed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

After all activities are completed, one team selected as the best team will be given the opportunity to participate in an international conference in the environmental field. Excellent teams will be offered opportunities to participate in international events such as the '2nd P4G Summit' and the 'World Blue Sky Day' commemorative event to be held domestically next year.
