President Moon visits Doosan Heavy Industries site again after two months... Signs "The Power of Korea's Heavy Industry! Moon Jae-in"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] "That's the huge blade I saw last time..." On the 17th, President Moon Jae-in showed interest in the actual offshore wind turbine blade during his visit to Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction in Changwon, Gyeongnam. President Moon visited Changwon for his fourth on-site visit related to the 'Korean New Deal,' his top priority project.
An interesting point is that two of President Moon's four on-site visits are related to Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction. The fact that President Moon met Doosan Heavy Industries Chairman Park Ji-won again after two months is closely connected to the special bond formed by the 'blade.'
Earlier, on July 17th, President Moon made his first Korean New Deal on-site visit to the Wind Power Core Technology Center in Buan, Jeonbuk. Jin Jong-wook, Executive Director of Doosan Heavy Industries, explained, "The model we are developing has blades that are 100 meters long."
President Moon said, "I thought wind power blades were as simple as fan blades, but I learned that they are very complex equipment combining advanced materials and cutting-edge technology."
Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction is a company that aligns closely with the Moon Jae-in administration's policies on eco-friendly energy, localization of core technologies, and job creation.
In particular, regarding Doosan Heavy Industries' offshore wind power business, President Moon emphasized, "Several large companies formed business groups and then withdrew, but Doosan Heavy Industries never gave up and continued research and development to reach today's level," adding, "I want to express special thanks to Doosan Heavy Industries." Doosan Heavy Industries, which President Moon showed exceptional interest and affection for, is naturally emerging as a symbolic company of the Korean New Deal.
President Moon's visit to Doosan Heavy Industries in Changwon related to the Smart Green project is also connected to this. Jung Young-in, President of Doosan Heavy Industries, explained about the huge blades that caught President Moon's attention: "When the windmill blades rotate, they transfer that rotation to the generator, and when electricity is generated, the transformer processes the electricity to keep it running according to the design."
Additionally, President Moon showed interest in gas turbines. He expressed hope, saying, "If coal power generation is replaced by LNG gas power generation in the future, we can drastically reduce our greenhouse gas emissions."
An on-site engineer said, "We developed a world-class large gas turbine in a short period of seven years. Although a challenging process is expected until we gain competitiveness in the global market, we are confident that the gas turbine will establish itself as a new growth engine for South Korea."
President Moon participated in the gas turbine blade assembly demonstration, signed commemoratively with the phrase 'The Power of Korean Heavy Industry! Moon Jae-in,' and concluded his visit to Doosan Heavy Industries with a send-off from Chairman Park Ji-won.
