[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] A man in his 50s who wielded a weapon to kill his wife and son and severely injure his daughter was sentenced to life imprisonment.

The Jinju Branch of Changwon District Court's 1st Criminal Division sentenced Kang Mo (56), who was detained and indicted on charges including murder, to life imprisonment at the sentencing hearing held on the 17th.

The court stated the reason for the sentence, saying, "Considering the brutal method of the crime and the impact of killing family members on our society, severe punishment is inevitable."

In particular, the court did not accept Kang's claim that the crime was impulsive, stating, "Since the weapon that was in the car was placed in the shoe rack at the house entrance and then used to commit the crime, it appears to have been premeditated."

The prosecution demanded the death penalty for Kang at the final hearing.

Kang was detained and indicted on charges of killing his wife (51) and middle school son (14) with a weapon and seriously injuring his high school daughter (16) at his home in Sangpyeong-dong, Jinju-si, Gyeongnam Province, around 6 a.m. on March 12.

After the crime, he fled to nearby Hamyang-gun but was caught by police who tracked him down three days after the incident.

He had two prior records of domestic violence and had been living separately from his family due to conflicts including financial issues.
