From Once a Year to Twice a Year, Expanded to 4 Times in 2 Years
In the US, Subscription Possible Within 1 Year of Device Purchase
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Apple has decided to cover accidental damage incidents twice a year through its own insurance product, 'AppleCare Plus.'
On the 15th (local time), Apple announced changes related to AppleCare Plus. Until now, it only covered two incidents of water damage, screen breakage, or rear damage over two years, but this has been expanded to a total of four times, twice a year.
The domestic Apple website has also been updated with the content stating "covers 2 cases of accidental damage per 12 months." Although the number of compensations for accidental damage has increased, the amount individuals have to pay remains the same as before. The AppleCare+ deductible is 40,000 KRW per case for screen breakage and 120,000 KRW for other damages.
Apple is driving the expansion of AppleCare+ subscribers. In August, Apple significantly extended the AppleCare subscription period from the previous 60 days to 1 year. By opening the window to allow subscription even after 60 days, it is attracting consumers who purchased hardware. However, in Korea, the AppleCare+ subscription period is regulated to be within 60 days after purchase.
Meanwhile, in the U.S., Apple also provides coverage for AppleCare theft and loss twice a year. The individual deductible has been reduced to $149. In Korea, products that cover theft and loss have not been released, so this does not apply.
