Choo Mi-ae Resignation, 'Agree' 49% vs 'Disagree' 45.8% Neck and Neck


[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Public opinion on whether Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae should resign is sharply divided within the margin of error.


According to Realmeter's survey commissioned by 'OhmyNews' on the 15th, 49.0% of respondents agreed that Minister Choo should resign, while 45.8% disagreed, the agency announced on the 16th.


By age group, agreement was higher among students in their 20s (56.8% agree vs. 36.8% disagree), seniors in their 60s (67.3% vs. 28.0%), and those aged 70 and above (54.3% vs. 40.5%). In contrast, disagreement was the majority among those in their 40s (31.6% vs. 65.5%) and 50s (43.2% vs. 50.4%). The 30s age group showed a nearly even split (46.8% vs. 47.3%).


By gender, 53.9% of men agreed with the resignation claim, while only 44.1% of women agreed, showing relatively lower agreement among women.


By ideological inclination, conservatives overwhelmingly agreed with the resignation (73.5% agree vs. 24.8% disagree), whereas progressives mostly disagreed (22.2% vs. 72.1%), showing a significant gap. Among moderates, the majority agreed that she should resign (58.9% vs. 37.3%).


By political party support, 89.5% of People Power Party supporters agreed with the resignation claim, while 83.1% of Democratic Party supporters disagreed. Among the non-affiliated group, agreement was the majority (49.1% agree vs. 21.9% disagree).


The survey contacted 8,534 adults nationwide aged 18 and over, with a final 500 respondents completing the survey, resulting in a 5.9% response rate. The sampling error is ±4.4 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
