[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…The U.S. Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour has established the '2nd Drive On Championship.'
On the 16th (Korean time), it announced, "Due to the impact of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), all four tournaments scheduled to be held in the Asian region in October have been canceled," adding, "We created a new tournament to fill this gap." The tournament name is the same as the Drive On Championship held last July. It will take place over four days starting from the 22nd of next month at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Georgia, USA. The total prize money is 1.3 million dollars (1.5 billion won).
"Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, traveling to Asia has become impossible," said Mike Whan, LPGA Commissioner, expressing, "I felt it was very important to create another opportunity for the players," and added, "Reynolds Lake Oconee has provided an excellent venue to showcase the world's best female golfers." The LPGA Tour will hold the Cambia Portland Classic at Columbia Edgewater Golf Course in Portland, Oregon, USA, on the night of the 18th.
