[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Kim Bong-ju] A 62-year-old female politician in Malaysia has become a hot topic after holding her second wedding ceremony with a 28-year-old man following the death of her husband.
According to MyMetro on the 15th, Zaleha (62), the female representative of the Malacca Jasin district for the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO) party in Malaysia, held a wedding ceremony with businessman Ashraf Daniel (28) on the 11th.
The age difference between the two is thirty-four years.
Representative Zaleha had three children from her first marriage and lived with them until her husband passed away from illness five years ago.
After her husband's death, Zaleha first met Ashraf at another politician's house and grew closer while campaigning together for a by-election.
Ashraf said, "After watching her for years, I decided to get married. I am truly grateful that she accepted my proposal after six months of courtship."
Representative Zaleha said, "I think love blossomed from the day we first met. Although there was family opposition due to the age difference, we resolved it well. When I told the children that I was lonely, they eventually agreed to my remarriage."
Zaleha added, "I don't think I can get pregnant again, but we are also considering adopting a child to brighten our lives."
Malaysian netizens are sharing photos of the couple's wedding on social media, saying "Age is not a barrier to love."
