[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] Dongkuk Steel has engaged in sharing activities for local residents near its business sites in collaboration with its affiliate Songwon Cultural Foundation ahead of the Chuseok holiday.
On the 14th, Dongkuk Steel delivered living support funds to residents in Dong-gu, Incheon, and on the 15th to residents in Nam-gu, Busan. On the 18th, it plans to provide support funds to residents near Songak-eup, Dangjin, distributing a total of 37.5 million KRW in living support funds to 150 people.
This year, to comply with government quarantine guidelines due to the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the usual meal offerings were omitted, and gifts were delivered through community centers to enhance the meaning of the holiday.
On the 18th, the Incheon plant will also hold a ‘Love Rice Delivery Ceremony,’ delivering 240 bags of rice to two local children’s centers, one free meal service center, and three senior citizen centers. Dongkuk Steel’s living support fund delivery event has been held annually during Lunar New Year and Chuseok for 27 years since 1994.
Meanwhile, besides local community sharing activities, the Songwon Cultural Foundation continuously carries out social contribution activities such as selecting Songwon scholarship students and providing scholarships to science and engineering university students as well as elementary, middle, and high school students.
