[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] The Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) announced on the 15th that Chairman Yoon Jong-in will sequentially meet with 50 citizens and experts from various sectors to listen to policy opinions related to personal information through the 'Personal Information Talk Talk Relay.'
Starting this month, Chairman Yoon plans to meet with 50 policy stakeholders from various sectors, including small business owners, youth, industry, academia, and the legal community, at intervals of 2 to 3 weeks, holding 50-minute conversations with each. When communicating with organizations, one representative is considered as one of the 50 participants.
The first dialogue participants are civic groups. On the 17th at 4 p.m., at the Government Seoul Office, he will engage in discussions with representatives from eight organizations including the Jinbo Network Center, Korea Consumer Federation, People's Solidarity for Participatory Democracy, Citizens' Coalition for Economic Justice, and Seoul YMCA, to hear opinions on the future policy direction of the integrated PIPC, which was launched following the enforcement of the 'Data 3 Acts' on the 5th of last month.
Listening to Field Opinions on Personal Information to Adjust and Reflect Policies
The Personal Information Talk Talk Relay was established to listen to the voices of the public regarding personal information and to promote policies that reflect field opinions, in a situation where data processing has surged due to the development of new technologies such as artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things, and where the collection and use of personal information have become routine following the spread of non-face-to-face services after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Considering the COVID-19 situation, the relay will also be conducted online in a non-face-to-face manner. Given the increasing overseas transfer of personal information, meetings with foreigners such as global companies will also be pursued.
Chairman Yoon said, "The utilization of data, a key success factor in the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, begins with personal information protection, and social communication is essential to balance protection and utilization, which are two sides of the same coin. While improving unnecessary regulations that hinder the data economy, we will strengthen communication with the field to thoroughly protect citizens' privacy."
The PIPC stated that the communication contents of the Personal Information Talk Talk Relay will be produced into card news and promotional videos, shared through the website (www.pipc.go.kr) and social networking services (SNS), and actively reflected in future policy formulation.
