Gokseong Melon Launches 'Melon Cheong & Paste' Targeting Home Cafe Enthusiasts

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] Amid the resurgence of COVID-19 and ongoing social distancing measures making outdoor activities difficult, Gokseong-gun in Jeollanam-do has launched Gokseong Melon Syrup and Gokseong Melon Paste targeting the growing home cafe crowd.

According to Gokseong-gun on the 15th, the newly released Gokseong Melon Syrup and Paste can be used in various beverages such as lattes, aides, jams, and shaved ice.

In particular, to allow enjoying cafe-style drinks at home, the melon’s color and aroma are preserved while almonds are added to reduce the melon’s unique fishy taste and enhance the nutty flavor.

The Gokseong Melon Rural Convergence Industrialization Project Group has so far led the development of various processed products using Gokseong melon, including smoothies, ice cream, fermented tea, and fermented vinegar.

They are currently also promoting the development of distinctive melon processed products reflecting consumer preferences, such as konjac jelly and collagen foods.

A project group official stated, “With the spread of social distancing and the untact trend due to COVID-19, there is increasing demand for foods that can be enjoyed alone. We will continue to develop processed products that can be conveniently consumed at home to satisfy both taste and health for consumers.”
