[2021 Early Admission Special] Gachon University Increases AI Major Enrollment by 100 Students

[2021 Early Admission Special] Gachon University Increases AI Major Enrollment by 100 Students

[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Gachon University will recruit 3,048 students, about 70% of the total number of recruits, through early admission. Applications will be accepted from the 23rd to 6 p.m. on the 28th.

The early admission process is broadly divided into the Student Record Academic Achievement Track and the Student Record Comprehensive Track. The Student Record Academic Achievement Track includes the Student Record Excellence Track, which selects candidates based on 80% academic records and 20% extracurricular activities (attendance and volunteer work), the Aptitude Excellence Track, which selects candidates based on 40% aptitude test and 60% academic records, and the Rural (Aptitude) Track.

The Student Record Comprehensive Track includes the Gachon Windmill 1 Track, Gachon Windmill 2 Track, Gachon Medical Track, Gachon AI·SW Track, Social Contribution Track, Specialized High School (Comprehensive) Track, Rural (Comprehensive) Track, Educational Opportunity Equalization Track, and the Integrated Bachelor-Master (5-year) Track. Among these, only the Gachon Medical Track applies the minimum CSAT score requirement, while the other tracks do not have this requirement. The Artificial Intelligence major, newly established as the first of its kind in a domestic university undergraduate program and which admitted 50 freshmen for the first time this year, increased its recruitment quota to 150 students in the 2021 academic year, adding 100 more students.

The early employment contract departments have also been newly established, recruiting 160 students outside the quota in four departments (Advanced Medical Devices, Game & Video, Display, Future Automotive). Admission to these departments guarantees employment upon entry, with a total of three years to earn a bachelor's degree. In the first year, students receive full tuition covered by government scholarships plus an additional scholarship of 4 million KRW per person, and from the second year, 50% of tuition is supported by the company where the student is employed. Selection is conducted in two stages: first, a document screening selecting five times the number of candidates needed, then a second stage where interviews and first-stage scores are weighted 50% each for final selection.

The aptitude test-based admissions include the Aptitude Excellence Track and the Rural (Aptitude) Track, selecting a total of 1,122 students. These tracks do not require a minimum CSAT score and, as in the previous year, reflect 60% academic records and 40% aptitude test scores. The most distinctive feature of Gachon University's aptitude test is its focus on subject aptitude. The subject aptitude test, based on high school curricula, is similar in format to the CSAT but is designed to be easier, with a difficulty level about 80% of the CSAT.
