Facebook to Launch 'Facebook Campus' Version

Joining Groups with Students from the Same School... Also Checking Campus Events

Facebook to Launch 'Facebook Campus' Version

[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] Facebook is launching a social networking service centered on university campuses.

According to TechCrunch and other foreign media on the 11th, Facebook announced the launch of a new social networking platform called 'Facebook Campus.'

College students using Facebook can connect with friends from the same school through Facebook Campus, join groups, and check upcoming campus events. They are also provided with a personal space to get the latest information from the school administration and to chat with students from dormitories, clubs, and other campus groups.

Facebook Campus requires registration with a school email address and can be accessed through a dedicated section in the Facebook application. It is available alongside sections such as 'Watch,' 'Gaming,' and 'News' in the bottom tab or the 'More' menu of the app screen.

Facebook explained, "We wanted to create a service that allows college students to build new relationships and easily start conversations amid the COVID-19 pandemic."

Facebook has been losing its grip on the younger generation, overshadowed by other SNS platforms like YouTube, Snapchat, and Instagram. According to a survey by Edison Research last year, Facebook lost 15 million users since 2017, with the most significant decline among users aged 12 to 34.

Facebook Campus was created to regain young users by providing a more exclusive space for personal networking in this situation.

Facebook Campus will initially be available at about 30 universities across the United States, with plans to expand to more schools in the future. Facebook stated, "Some universities have formed deeper partnerships with Facebook and have registered to post the latest information and news on students' Facebook Campus feeds."
