Gimcheon-si Selected for Ministry of Agriculture's 'Rural New Vitality Project'... 7 Billion Won Invested in 'Fruit Distribution Platform'

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gimcheon City, Gyeongbuk announced on the 9th that it has been finally selected for the '2021 Rural New Vitality Plus Contest Project' hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, securing a total project budget of 7 billion KRW over four years from next year to 2024.

This project is a platform construction project connecting urban residents and rural areas. It is a project to advance regional specialized industries and create social jobs by utilizing regional assets and private organizations prepared through local resource development projects, regional and village development projects, etc.

Gimcheon City explained that it plans to build a '365 Days Social Consumption of Fruits' platform using local agricultural products, while launching a secretariat and action groups to steadily increase fruit consumption.

Gimcheon City intends to promote this project in connection with distribution businesses such as the core facility of the agricultural product comprehensive distribution town development complex, the fruit base production area distribution center, the integrated relocation of wholesale markets and auction markets, local food direct stores, themed cafes, and parks.

Mayor Kim Chung-seop said, "We will actively discover various human and material resources in rural areas to generate new vitality in the region, combining tourism culture, food, and ecological experiences to promote a virtuous cycle of society and economy in rural areas," and added, "We expect this to be an opportunity to inject new vitality along with rural competitiveness through new job creation and income generation."
