'LG Dios Gwangpa Oven' Sales Jump 30% Year-on-Year

'Artificial Intelligence Cook' Feature Popular for Finding Recipes

[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] LG Electronics announced on the 9th that the cumulative sales of the ‘Dios Gwangpa Oven’ equipped with the AI Cook function increased by about 30% compared to last year (January to July). In particular, last month's sales reached twice the level of the previous year, showing a steep growth trend.

LG Electronics explained that the Dios Gwangpa Oven has been recognized as a representative home appliance for staying at home since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The AI Cook function driving the growth of the Dios Gwangpa Oven is characterized by the oven automatically finding the optimal cooking method when customers scan the barcode on Pulmuone Foods’ ready meals with their smartphone camera. There are a total of 41 types of Pulmuone Foods’ ready meals compatible with this function. LG Electronics plans to continuously expand the range of ready meals supported by AI Cook.

This function is available by linking the LG ThinQ app on a smartphone with the Gwangpa Oven equipped with Wi-Fi. According to an experiment conducted by Professor Sooyong Lee’s research team from the Department of Food Engineering at Sejong University, thin-skinned dumplings and burritos cooked with the LG Dios Gwangpa Oven were three times and twice as crispy, respectively, compared to those cooked with the LG Dios microwave. Additionally, they were grilled 13% and 8.8% more golden brown, enhancing the texture.

In a blind tasting event held by LG Electronics in November last year, ready meals cooked with the AI Cook function of the Dios Gwangpa Oven were evaluated as tastier than those cooked in a microwave.

The Gwangpa Oven combines the functions of nine cooking devices including oven, air fryer, grill, microwave, and fermenter, allowing more efficient use of kitchen space. It also features a Multi-Clean function with various options such as deodorization, steam cleaning, residual water removal, and drying, making it useful for cleaning the cooking space inside the product.
