Dongjak-gu 'Sadang 4-dong Urban Regeneration' Online Education

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) is conducting the ‘Sadang 4-dong Urban Regeneration Online Education’ until the 30th.

Following the announcement of the Sadang 4-dong Urban Regeneration Activation Plan in June, the district will invest approximately 26 billion KRW by 2023 to carry out 20 pilot projects across 9 sectors.

This education program is designed to provide residents with basic knowledge of urban regeneration, share policies, directions, and implementation strategies, and enhance the capacity of stakeholders to improve understanding of urban regeneration projects.

Participants include newly registered members of the residents’ council and residents involved in community contest projects, who will receive the website address for the education via registered SNS channels.

The education consists of three lectures delivered by urban regeneration experts and university professors: ▲ Urban Regeneration and New Deal Policy ▲ Urban Regeneration Projects and 10 Key Issues ▲ Understanding the Urban Regeneration Activation Plan, aimed at enhancing basic understanding of urban regeneration New Deal projects.

In particular, in compliance with strengthened social distancing and quarantine guidelines due to COVID-19, the program has shifted from offline to online lectures via YouTube.

During the course, participants can freely exchange questions and opinions through the chat window and comment section.

After completing the lectures, the district will conduct a survey on education satisfaction and lecture improvement to reference for future urban regeneration projects or related educational initiatives.

For more details, inquiries can be made to the Sadang 4-dong Urban Regeneration Center.

Park Beom-jin, Head of the Strategic Projects Division, said, “We hope this education will serve as an opportunity for local residents to understand and actively participate in the Sadang 4-dong urban regeneration project,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to promote people-centered urban regeneration projects while preserving the unique characteristics of the area.”

In 2014, Sangdo 4-dong was selected as the first Seoul-type urban regeneration activation project site in the southwestern autonomous district, and from 2015, the district invested 10.5 billion KRW over four years to implement eight projects, including the construction of the urban regeneration anchor facility ‘Sangdo Eoulmadang.’

Additionally, by December 2022, the district is implementing an urban regeneration New Deal project with a budget of 13 billion KRW over 37,527㎡ in the Noryangjin Bon-dong area. Under the vision ‘River Hill Bon-dong embracing the Han River and history,’ the project includes ▲ creating historical and cultural spaces around Yongyangbongjeojeong ▲ improving infrastructure through demolition of vacant lots and old houses in Bon-dong ▲ autonomous housing maintenance projects ▲ and establishing anchor facilities through remodeling of old vacant houses.
