Hong Kong Trade Development Council Hosts Webinar on Market Opportunities in China’s Greater Bay Area and Hong Kong’s Role

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council announced that it will hold a webinar on the topic of market opportunities in the Greater Bay Area of China and Hong Kong's role on Friday, September 11, 2020, from 3:30 PM for about one hour.

The Greater Bay Area (GBA, ?港澳大灣區) region of China is a vast economic integration zone that includes Hong Kong, Macau, Shenzhen, and nine other cities in Guangdong Province. It is expected to develop into an economic zone comparable to the world's three major bays (coastal areas): New York Bay, San Francisco Bay, and Tokyo Bay in Japan.

The 11 cities of the Greater Bay Area cover an area of approximately 56,100 square kilometers and have a total population of over 71 million. It generates an annual GDP of about 1.6 trillion US dollars and hosts the Shenzhen Port, Hong Kong Port, and Guangzhou Port, which handle the largest global logistics volume. Based on world-class international airport infrastructure, the region sees about 110 million air passengers annually, making it one of the most active trade regions in the world.

Additionally, it is a core area of China's ambitious Belt and Road Initiative (一帶一路: land and maritime Silk Road) and is located at a crucial route point toward Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. Combining Guangdong Province's world-class research and development and manufacturing infrastructure, Hong Kong's advanced financial system, and Macau's leisure and entertainment environment, it is expected to be further solidified as the center of China's high-tech industry and innovation economy, rivaling the US Silicon Valley.

Co-hosted by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, this webinar will feature senior Hong Kong government officials introducing the recently updated Greater Bay Area development policies and support benefits for domestic companies. It will also provide a lively information-sharing session through real-time online Q&A.

A representative from the Hong Kong Trade Development Council stated, "This will be a useful information-sharing opportunity for domestic export support organizations, SMEs, and startup stakeholders interested in expanding into the Greater Bay Area market."
