Lotte Confectionery Launches 'Air Baked' Onion-Flavored Potato Chips

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Saeng-hye] Lotte Confectionery announced on the 3rd that it has launched a new product in the ‘Air Baked’ line, the ‘Air Baked Potato Sour Cream Onion Flavor.’

This product is the second potato chip in the ‘Air Baked’ series, featuring an onion flavor preferred by both men and women, combined with a slightly tangy sour cream sauce taste to enhance the umami. Like other ‘Air Baked’ products, it is baked with hot air in a specially designed oven instead of being fried, resulting in a light and clean taste without oil, and a crispy texture. Additionally, since it is not fried in oil, its fat content is more than 60% lower compared to regular snacks.

With the addition of the onion flavor, the ‘Air Baked’ line now consists of three varieties. The ‘Air Baked Potato’ maximizes the flavor of potatoes by applying a ‘marinade technique’ that adds seasoning to the blended ingredients to enhance the taste. The ‘Air Baked Popchip’ is made by expanding rice, corn, chickpeas, peas, and purple sweet potatoes through heat and pressure. Since it is not fried in oil, the original flavors are more pronounced. It also includes Camembert cheese, providing a savory and slightly salty flavor.

‘Air Baked’ is a new-concept snack ambitiously launched by Lotte Confectionery in June of this year, achieving sales of approximately 4.5 billion KRW within about three months until August, bringing a fresh breeze to the snack market. It is especially gaining popularity as word spreads that its crispy texture and salty taste pair well as a beer snack.

Lotte Confectionery plans to continuously strengthen marketing related to ‘Air Baked’ and develop it into a mega brand comparable to the top domestic snack, Kkokkalcorn.
