On the evening of the 24th, around 9:50 PM, the kitchen manager, Mr. Oh (47), who was settling the sales at the counter of a Japanese restaurant in Donghong-dong, Seogwipo City, suddenly collapsed.
Hearing the sound of Mr. Oh collapsing, the startled employees rushed in one by one, and amidst the confusion, Kim Hyun-joong ran into the restaurant.
Kim Hyun-joong checked the body of the unconscious kitchen manager, lifted his head to immediately secure the airway, and unbuttoned his shirt. He told the nearby staff, "Call 119 immediately."
Until the ambulance arrived, he massaged the kitchen manager’s chest and abdomen, which had become stiff, and told the staff, "Bring some cold ice."
For about nine minutes, Kim Hyun-joong continuously spoke to the kitchen manager to help him regain consciousness, and as the manager’s breathing and awareness gradually returned, the 119 ambulance arrived at the restaurant.
He then assisted the 119 rescue workers in moving the kitchen manager and also explained the situation at that time.
After this incident became known, Kim Hyun-joong’s side stated, "We just did what was natural."
