[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Airport Railroad is strengthening guidance activities on wearing masks inside trains to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
With the implementation of social distancing level 2 making mask-wearing mandatory, Airport Railroad is checking mask-wearing at station entrances and gates, and is focusing on encouraging compliance with quarantine rules such as wearing masks inside trains.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., six guidance personnel board operating trains to check whether passengers are wearing masks properly, and strongly recommend wearing masks if they are not worn or worn incorrectly. Those who do not comply may be subject to sanctions such as being asked to disembark.
Airport Railroad broadcasts mask-wearing announcements every 10 minutes inside stations and trains, and continuously promotes social distancing quarantine rules through station bulletin boards and the official website.
Starting from the 3rd of next month, messages encouraging mask-wearing will be displayed on the screen indicators at gates, and mask-wearing announcements will be broadcast in Korean and English when passing through the gates.
Meanwhile, from the 24th to the 28th of last month, six guidance personnel were deployed daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on operating trains to check whether passengers were wearing masks properly.
As a result, a total of 484 cases (an average of 97 cases per day) were detected over five days. Passengers were caught either not wearing masks at all or wearing them below the nose or on the chin.
Kim Hanyeong, President of Airport Railroad, emphasized, "In the confined space of train cars, minimizing contact between passengers is essential for safety," and urged, "To prevent the spread of COVID-19, please be sure to wear a mask when using the train."
