Priority Application to Naju Headquarters by the End of October
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] The Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) announced on the 31st that it will be the first public institution to introduce a mobile employee ID using blockchain-based decentralized identity verification (DID) technology.
Decentralized identity verification is a non-face-to-face customized technology that provides identity authentication in contactless environments and allows users to directly manage their personal information.
The mobile employee ID stores the issuance and access history information on an immutable blockchain, and encrypts personal information on the user's smartphone, enabling safer management of personal data compared to traditional plastic employee IDs.
KISA plans to utilize the contactless mobile employee ID supporting QR code technology not only for office access but also for additional services such as library book loans and cafeteria use. It will also support two-factor authentication to prevent unauthorized system logins when using the work portal, thereby enhancing internal system security.
KISA will first introduce the mobile employee ID at its Naju headquarters by the end of October, followed by deployment at the Seoul and Pangyo offices within this year. Through future functional improvements and advancements, it plans to expand the service to mobile membership cards linked with regional public libraries. Kim Seok-hwan, Director of KISA, stated, "We hope that the introduction of the mobile employee ID will improve employee convenience and security, and serve as a catalyst for discovering contactless identity verification services linked with regional related organizations."
