Diesel Model Delivery to Resume from the 19th
Backlog of 'Over 10,000 Units' Expected to Clear
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] The Genesis GV80 diesel model will resume deliveries after a hiatus of about two months. Attention is focused on whether GV80 sales, which had been sluggish due to the delivery suspension, can regain momentum.
According to industry sources on the 15th, Hyundai Motor Company will restart deliveries of the Genesis GV80 diesel model from the 19th. The previous day, customers were notified via text message that "a validation of the vibration issue in some vehicles of this model has been completed, and a corrective action plan has been prepared."
Production of the GV80 diesel model also gradually resumed from the 13th. At Hyundai Motor's Ulsan Plant 2, production will begin with pilot runs of the GV80 diesel model and then progressively increase output.
Released earlier this year, the GV80 attracted attention as Genesis brand's first sports utility vehicle (SUV). The diesel-only model, launched in January, created a sensation by securing 15,000 contracts on the day of release. Approximately 8,000 units were sold before the delivery suspension announcement in June, with a waiting list reaching 10,000 units.
With deliveries resuming after about two months, GV80 sales, which had been stagnant, are expected to rebound. This is because the waiting list of over 10,000 diesel units will be added to the gasoline model, which had been delivered normally. GV80 sales accelerated with the addition of the gasoline model in March, surpassing 4,000 units in April, but dropped to around 3,000 units last month.
The Genesis GV80, along with the G80, is also preparing for sales in the United States. It is reported that over 10,000 units have already been pre-ordered in the U.S. market since May, making it a highly anticipated model expected to drive Hyundai Motor's North American performance in the second half of the year.
