Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun Visits Flood Damage Site in Jinan-gun

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Go Dallyoung] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun visited the Korea Water Resources Corporation Yongdam Dam Management Office located in Songpung-ri, Yongdam-myeon, Jinan-gun on the 13th.

At the visit, National Assembly members Ahn Ho-young and Kim Jong-min, Seo Young-kyo of the Public Administration and Security Committee, Governor Song Ha-jin, Jinan-gun Mayor Jeon Chun-seong, and other local government heads and officials from nearby areas attended.

At the site, Prime Minister Chung received a briefing from dam officials regarding the water discharged from Yongdam Dam due to the rain that fell over two days from July 28 and the heavy rain from the 7th to the 9th, which caused flooding damage in nearby areas.

An official from the Geumgang River Basin Environmental Office explained the situation, stating that the usual discharge, which rarely exceeded 700 tons per second, recently reached about 2,900 tons per second due to the heavy rain, causing flooding in downstream areas.

Prime Minister Chung said, “If there were any shortcomings in appropriately responding to the dam discharge, please explain them in detail to the public, and if there are parts that need improvement, please ensure they are improved.”
