Samhwa Paint Solves Leakage with Waterproofing Material 'Green Bangsu Master'

Eco-friendly Waterproof Paint Free of 4 Heavy Metals, 6 Phthalates, and MOCA

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] As unprecedented long rainy seasons cause a surge in building leakage damage, waterproof paint and water-repellent paint are gaining attention. Samhwa Paint is prepared to meet the demand for the eco-friendly waterproof material 'Green Waterproof Master,' which was launched last year and chosen by many consumers.

Green Waterproof Master is an eco-friendly waterproof material that does not use the four major harmful heavy metals?hexavalent chromium compounds, lead, cadmium, mercury?six major phthalates, and the toxic substance ‘4,4'-Methylenebis(2-chloroaniline)’ (hereafter MOCA).

In particular, according to the Ministry of Environment's notice, the manufacture, sale, and use of MOCA substances have been completely banned since the end of August this year. Samhwa Paint was the first in the industry to launch the KS standard product 'KSF3211 Type 1 Waterproof Material' without MOCA components in 2018, followed by the eco-friendly waterproof material Green Waterproof Master in 2019.

Water-repellent paint, which is applied to the vertical exterior walls of buildings to improve durability, is also receiving attention. While waterproof paint is mainly applied to rooftops and floors to block water infiltration through thick coatings, water-repellent paint forms a thin film on external bricks, cement, concrete, etc., preventing absorption of snow and rainwater and thus protecting internal rebar from rusting.

Samhwa Paint’s water-repellent products include the Siricote series, which features eco-friendly water-based products such as Water Siricote Plus and Super Water Siricote. Water Siricote Plus, applicable to somewhat slippery materials like marble, tiles, and red bricks, allows for repainting after a certain period, maintaining its water-repellent function consistently.

Super Water Siricote is an eco-friendly water-repellent paint using silicone emulsion, applied to finishing materials like cement and concrete that absorb moisture well, and it protects buildings by releasing absorbed moisture as vapor.

A Samhwa Paint official stated, "Green Waterproof Master prevents coating cracks caused by structural vibrations or external impacts and enables smooth finishing, effectively blocking leaks. Siricote effectively blocks rainwater entering building exteriors and enhances durability," adding, "Through Samhwa Paint’s waterproof and water-repellent paints incorporating eco-friendly technology, we can prepare for abnormal weather conditions such as the rainy season."
