Jeonnam Sarangui Yeolmae Delivers 'Emergency Support Funds' to Areas Affected by Heavy Rainfall

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Jeonnam Community Chest of Korea (Chairman Nodongil, Jeonnam Sarangui Yeolmae) announced on the 13th that it will provide a total of 400 million KRW in emergency support funds to the Jeonnam region, which suffered severe landslides and flooding damage due to the heavy rain that began on the 5th.

The target areas are seven cities and counties: Gokseong-gun, Gurye-gun, Damyang-gun, Hwasun-gun, Naju-si, Yeonggwang-gun, and Jangseong-gun.

This emergency support fund is raised through donations from Jeonnam residents and is a project for urgent recovery of communities affected by natural disasters and heavy rain damage.

A total of 350 million KRW will be delivered, with 50 million KRW allocated to each city and county.

Through organic cooperation with local governments, community welfare institutions, and related organizations, the fund will support emergency relief projects (relief supplies, living and medical expenses, restoration project costs, etc.) for vulnerable groups and flood-affected areas.

In addition, to address the meal issues of flood victims, funds will be provided for purchasing materials to operate the ‘Love Meal Truck,’ which will be dispatched to each region starting from this day.

Employees of the Jeonnam Community Chest will also participate in volunteer activities and devote full efforts to relief activities to ease the pain of the flood victims.

Nodongil, chairman of the Jeonnam Community Chest of Korea, said, “We will do our best to promptly restore the damage so that the disaster victims who have lost their homes and are struggling due to the heavy rain can return to their daily lives as soon as possible.”

Meanwhile, the Jeonnam Community Chest of Korea has continuously carried out emergency support activities whenever domestic and international disasters occur.

Since the 2014 Sewol ferry incident support, it has conducted fundraising activities related to the recovery from last year’s Gangwon-do wildfire damage. With the heavy rain occurring before the effects of COVID-19 have fully subsided, a special fundraising campaign has been underway from the 5th of this month until the end of the month.

As a legally designated fundraising and distribution organization in Korea leading the way for a ‘Happy Jeonnam united by sharing’ without poverty, disease, or exclusion, it raised 15.69162 billion KRW last year and supported 20.35932 billion KRW to 1,848 social welfare facilities and 16,389 neighbors in need.

In particular, during the special COVID-19 fundraising period implemented earlier this year, a total of 1.8477365 billion KRW raised through fundraising activities was provided to social welfare facilities, institutions, and individuals in need of assistance.
