Online Survey on Part-Time Job Conditions and Labor Rights Violations until the 19th
Development of Labor Rights Education Materials Based on Survey Results to Prevent Human Rights Violations Expected
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education will conduct a survey on part-time job conditions and labor rights violations among all high school students from the 12th to the 19th.
Based on the results of the labor rights condition survey, the Office of Education plans to provide labor rights education by visiting schools and develop labor rights educational materials for students.
The survey will be conducted online. Through the survey, questions will cover high school students' part-time job experience, plans for part-time work, average weekly working hours, size of the workplace, minimum hourly wage, whether a labor contract was written, weekly holiday pay, overtime work, working conditions, unfair treatment, and awareness of labor rights education.
According to the '2020 Youth Statistics' released by Statistics Korea and the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, 8.5% of middle and high school students had part-time job experience within the past year.
The part-time job experience rate was higher among high school students (13.6%) than middle school students (2.7%), and by high school type, specialized high schools (23.5%) showed a higher rate than general, specialized, and autonomous high schools (11.2%).
The Office of Education plans to use the analysis of the labor rights education condition survey as basic data for labor rights education visits to schools and for developing labor rights education materials.
Based on the survey responses, the content of labor rights education that students actually need will be analyzed to provide labor rights education by visiting schools.
The Office of Education’s Labor Rights Education Activation Support Group will analyze labor rights education materials from other cities and provinces and develop new materials to be distributed to students by the end of this year.
For material development, the Office of Education appointed members of the Youth Labor Rights Network and related teachers as material development committee members.
The labor rights education materials will include content on how to write labor contracts, minimum wage, working hours and holidays, the four major social insurances, and information to prevent unfair labor practices and protect the rights of youth engaged in part-time jobs or field training.
An official from the Office of Education said, “We plan to provide accurate information on youth labor rights to students by developing labor rights education materials and visiting schools for education, aiming to prevent unfair labor rights violations and protect students’ rights.”
