[Breaking] Police Launch Preliminary Investigation Over Honam Flood Damage and 'Odengtang·Misutgaru'...

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ga-yeon] The police have decided to investigate and punish those who mocked the victims of flood damage in the Honam region by calling them "Odengtang" or comparing the loss of urns to "Misugaru."

The Cyber Investigation Unit of the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 11th that it has launched an internal investigation after a series of posts mocking the region and victims of flood damage caused by heavy rain in Gwangju and Jeonnam appeared online.

Following the heavy rain on the 7th and 8th that caused flood damage in Gwangju and Jeonnam, posts mocking the flood victims and bereaved families from Honam were repeatedly uploaded on the Ilbe site. On the site, victims of the heavy rain in Damyang-gun, Jeonnam, were compared to "Odengtang," and bereaved families who suffered damage from the flooding of the columbarium in Gwangju were described as "people lining up to eat Misugaru" or referred to as "Gwangju ○○s who are being punished even after death."
