Korea Post "Free Delivery of Relief Mail to Special Disaster Areas"

Relief Mail, 6 Months Free Shipping Support
Post Office Deposit Transfers and ATM Withdrawal Fees Waived

[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Korea Post has announced that it will provide free delivery of relief mail and waive various fees for areas declared as special disaster zones due to heavy rainfall.


On the 10th, the Ministry of Science and ICT's Korea Post stated that for residents in seven areas?Anseong-si in Gyeonggi, Cheorwon-gun in Gangwon, Chungju-si, Jecheon-si, and Eumseong-gun in Chungbuk, and Cheonan-si and Asan-si in Chungnam?it will support for six months ▲free delivery of relief mail ▲waiver of fees for postal savings remittance and ATM withdrawals ▲deferment of insurance premiums and loan interest payments at post offices.


The post office will deliver relief mail sent by relief organizations such as the Korean Red Cross and the National Disaster Relief Association to the special disaster zones free of charge from today until February 2021. Citizens wishing to send relief mail should send the mail to the relief organizations, which will then submit it to the post office.


Customers with postal savings accounts whose registered home addresses are confirmed to be in special disaster zones can receive fee waivers for interbank account transfers, passbook reissuance, and ATM cash withdrawals until February 2021. Internet banking, smart banking, and ATM transaction fees will be waived starting August 12. The ATM fee waiver applies only when using a Korea Post card at post office machines within the disaster areas.


Customers with Korea Post insurance can receive deferment benefits for insurance premiums and loan interest payments until February 2021. They must submit a deferment application along with a disaster certificate issued by the city or eup/myeon/dong community service center to the post office by October 30, 2020. Deferred Korea Post insurance premiums and loan interest can be paid in installments or in a lump sum between March and August 2021.


The Korea Post stated, "If additional special disaster zones are declared due to heavy rainfall, we plan to provide the same special support."
