Highly Accurate Contactless Unmanned Multi-Person Body Temperature Measurement Automatic System
Selected as the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy Technology Development Project Operator... Aspiring to Become a Global K-Quarantine Brand
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] Iruda, a medical device specialist company, unveiled a prototype of the 'Laser Fusion Body Temperature System,' a collective living quarantine system for respiratory infectious disease prevention, on the 10th.
The company set a goal to commercialize the product capable of simultaneous multi-person body temperature measurement within this year. Iruda applied lesion image analysis and laser selective treatment technology, which are next-generation technologies under research for laser surgical devices, enabling recognition of specific parts of the human body and measurement of body temperature.
Currently, thermal cameras used in the COVID-19 pandemic situation are mostly industrial-based products. While suitable for measuring the surface temperature of objects, they may have errors in measuring core body temperature. The company explained that these cameras cannot detect subtle heat changes in the human body caused by viruses.
Thermal cameras installed at airports, government offices, public health centers, and schools sometimes show measurement temperatures lower or higher than actual human body temperature, raising accuracy concerns. Iruda's Laser Fusion Body Temperature System uses artificial intelligence (AI) to recognize the forehead area of the human face and measures distance and body temperature with a laser. It can automatically monitor multiple people simultaneously in a non-contact manner without operating personnel at schools, companies, government offices, and other locations.
Iruda was selected as the lead organization for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's technology development project for living quarantine products for a non-contact lifestyle. The company will develop the technology with a total government grant of 5.2 billion KRW over five years. In collaboration with participating institutions such as the Korea Electronics Technology Institute (KETI) for facial recognition AI technology and the globally compatible IoT platform (Mobius), the system will be expanded into a public quarantine network service platform capable of detecting mask-wearing status and early detection of regional infectious diseases.
Demonstration research will also be conducted at public facilities in Seongnam city, including 'Jungle On,' 'Seongnam Medical Center,' and 'Seongnam Senior-Friendly Experience Center.'
An Iruda official stated, "We are developing technology that meets the reliability through approval from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety and demonstration research, complying with international medical device safety standards," and added, "This technology will lead the global market as a K-quarantine brand through global expansion, along with multi-use facilities in small and medium-sized workplaces and the public procurement market."
