Slow City Jeonju Leads the Spread of the Spirit of 'Slowness and Happiness'

Operation of 'Osondoson Slow City Jeonju School' Until the 14th

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jaehee] Jeonju City, Jeollabuk-do, an international urban slow city, is conducting education that allows people to enjoy the leisure of life and feel the pride of a slow city.

On the 10th, the city announced that it will operate the ‘Osondoson Slow City Jeonju School’ to spread the philosophy and values of the slow city to 1,320 students in 57 classes at Jeonju Life Science High School and Jeonju Technical High School until the 14th.

This class will be conducted as an experiential program including ▲Understanding Slow City Jeonju ▲Learning Gugak (traditional Korean music) ▲Making lamps using traditional Korean paper (Hanji), inviting eight slow city professional instructors selected for the first time in Korea, a Gugak instructor, and a Hanji experience instructor.

The first class was held at Jeonju Life Science High School with 220 second-year high school students, introducing the charm of Slow City Jeonju and the spirit of the slow city.

Following this, another class will be held again on the 11th at Jeonju Life Science High School, and from the 12th, education will continue at Jeonju Technical High School.

Prior to this, the city has conducted the ‘Osondoson Slow City Jeonju School’ a total of 214 times since 2017 at welfare centers, cultural houses, small libraries, and elementary schools, targeting 6,584 people.

An official from Jeonju City said, “This education will be an opportunity to inform high school students, who are forming their life values, about the leisure of life and the Jeonju-style slow city spirit,” adding, “To advance Jeonju as the world’s representative urban slow city capital, we will continue to operate a high-quality Slow City Jeonju School for more students and citizens while adhering to COVID-19 prevention guidelines.”
