Driver's Identification of Child Protection Zones Made Easier at Night for Easy Entry Recognition... 140 LED Signs Installed, Solar Panels Charge Energy During Day for Nighttime Illumination
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yudonggyun) has completed the installation of solar-powered LED road safety signs within school zones to help drivers easily identify these areas and drive safely even at night.
The district invested 340 million KRW to replace a total of 140 road safety signs installed across 21 elementary school zones in the area with solar-powered LED road safety signs.
The solar-powered LED road safety signs charge energy through solar panels during the day, and when the surrounding brightness falls below a certain level, the signs light up, addressing the poor nighttime visibility of conventional signs.
With a full charge of 4 hours of solar power, the lights last about 20 days (based on 8 hours per day), making them unaffected by rainy or cloudy weather.
The district expects that by installing solar-powered LED road safety signs, drivers will be able to easily recognize when they enter school zones even in dark environments, thereby preventing child traffic accidents and contributing to the creation of a safer traffic environment.
In addition, as a key project following the implementation of the ‘Min-sik Act,’ unmanned speed enforcement cameras are being installed at intersections and signalized crosswalks in front of schools. To prevent illegal parking and stopping in front of schools, the district is continuously increasing the installation of ‘unmanned illegal parking enforcement cameras’ every year, and construction of ‘solar-powered LED marker posts’ to improve the visibility of crosswalks in front of schools is also underway.
Yudonggyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “We will continue to secure budgets for preventing child traffic accidents and expand the installation of traffic safety facilities to provide a safe commuting environment and strive to achieve zero child traffic accidents.”
