Geumcheon-gu Youth Participation Committee General Assembly Held

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yuseonghun) will hold the 'Youth Participation Committee General Assembly' at 2 p.m. on the 10th at the Makerspace in Gasan-dong.

At this 'Geumcheon-gu Youth Participation Committee General Assembly,' the inauguration ceremony will be held along with the 'Introduction to Makerspace,' 'Face-to-face meeting of all committee members,' 'Formation of Youth Policy Parties,' and 'Formation of the Youth Sector Deliberation Committee for the Geumcheon-gu Resident Participatory Budget.'

The district previously formed the 'Geumcheon-gu Youth Participation Committee,' consisting of 48 middle and high school students who participated through a public recruitment from May to July. The youth participation committee members will attend the general assembly after completing basic online education to establish the foundation for youth participation activities.

This general assembly was delayed from the original schedule due to the spread of COVID-19 but is being held to guarantee the participation rights of youth and in response to the active willingness of youth committee members to engage. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, all attendees will undergo temperature checks before the event, and social distancing and facility disinfection guidelines will be strictly followed.

In response to the prolonged COVID-19 situation, the district plans to actively support youth participation activities by conducting an online 'Democratic Citizenship Education' program for youth participation committee members after this general assembly and holding non-face-to-face meetings by party.

Additionally, through the Geumcheon-gu Youth General Election to be held around September, the district plans to support local youth in developing their capabilities as democratic citizens.

The 'Youth Participation Committee' is an institutional body established to enable youth to actively participate in the process of creating and implementing youth policies by the government and local governments.

It plays a role in directly viewing youth policies through the eyes of youth and presenting opinions through the youth council. Any youth can apply to become a youth participation committee member.

Yuseonghun, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, "The goal of youth participation activities is for youth, the future leaders, to grow into independent and autonomous adults through direct participation in district policies," and added, "We will spare no support for youth participation activities so that local youth can grow healthily as democratic citizens."
