[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Hyesoo] On the afternoon of the 8th, MBC's "Baekfather: Don't Stop Cooking!" (hereafter 'Baekfather') aired, where Baek Jong-won showcased dishes using tuna as the main ingredient: Donggeurangttaeng and Hamburg steak.
That day, Yang Se-hyung said, "Recently, many people around me have been confessing that they are beginners in cooking." As always, Baek Jong-won urged, "Housewives who are good at cooking, don't watch this, watch something else." Then, when Yang Se-hyung said, "Be nervous today as well," Baek Jong-won replied, "Don't be nervous, just let it go and take it slow. You might not even cook until the end," which brought laughter.
Before starting the cooking, Baek Jong-won and Yang Se-hyung greeted the beginner cooks. Gumi Elder, who appeared with a fresh haircut, struck a hip-hop pose and said, "I'm happy to be on the media," causing the studio to burst into laughter.
Also, since the cooking ingredient was canned tuna, various global types of canned tuna were shown. There were canned tuna in water and canned tuna in oil, and Baek Jong-won said, "You can use any canned tuna as long as it’s not seasoned. If you don't have canned tuna at home, you can use canned chicken breast or salmon."
Baek Jong-won announced, "Instead of the easy kimchi stew, since it’s been raining lately, we decided to make Donggeurangttaeng using tuna. It's not difficult and delicious. If this succeeds, we'll move on to an unexpected dish."
The ingredients for the tuna Donggeurangttaeng were onion, green onion, minced garlic, eggs, and either pancake mix or flour. Baek Jong-won added that if you don’t have powder ingredients, you can use rice instead.
The cooking started by opening two cans of tuna, draining the oil or water, and putting the tuna into a large bowl. Baek Jong-won said not to throw away the cans because they would be used for measuring. Then, the onions had to be finely chopped, marking the first time a knife was used on 'Baekfather.' Baek Jong-won said if you’re scared of using a knife, you don’t have to add it.
The finely chopped onions were filled to one can’s worth and put into the bowl, then green onions and Cheongyang chili peppers were finely chopped and added to half a can. Baek Jong-won said if you don’t like spicy food, you don’t have to add Cheongyang chili peppers. Instead, you can use green chili or red chili peppers.
After preparing all the vegetables, eggs and pancake mix were added in order and mixed well. If you don’t have pancake mix, you can use rice instead, but if you do, Baek Jong-won said to add three eggs. The eggs and powder help keep the ingredients from falling apart.
Now, place a pan on high heat, and once it’s hot, reduce to low heat and scoop the batter in. Baek Jong-won emphasized using two spoons to place the batter carefully to prevent oil splashing. When the batter is cooked well on both sides, it’s done.
After making the tuna Donggeurangttaeng, Baek Jong-won used the remaining batter to make tuna Hamburg steak. He filled the can with the leftover batter, put it directly into the pan, and cooked it on low heat.
While the Hamburg steak was cooking, Baek Jong-won made a sauce by adding one spoon each of soy sauce and sugar, and two spoons of ketchup. He also added butter to the Hamburg steak in the pan and grilled it together. Baek Jong-won said, "You have to add it while grilling to get that nice aroma."
Once the butter melted well, he added the sauce made earlier and simmered it down. Baek Jong-won emphasized, "Turn off the heat before adding the sauce." Finally, frying an egg to serve alongside completed the tuna Hamburg steak. Meanwhile, Elder overcooked the Hamburg steak, but Baek Jong-won said, "We burned it too," and reassured, "It’s okay even if it’s burnt."
To wrap up, Yang Se-hyung announced that next week’s ingredient would be pork. Baek Jong-won ended by saying, "Prepare pork for grilling."
The untact (contactless) era interactive cooking show MBC 'Baekfather' airs every Saturday at 5 PM.
