Japanese Restaurant Chain Proposes 'How to Eat While Wearing a Mask'... Netizens Respond with Cynicism

Japanese Restaurant Chain Proposes 'How to Eat While Wearing a Mask'... Netizens Respond with Cynicism Screenshot from the YouTube video of the Japanese family restaurant chain 'Saizeriya'

[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] A Japanese dining company introduced a unique way of eating while wearing a mask, but it received cynical reactions.

The Japanese family restaurant chain 'Saizeriya' created a video demonstrating how customers can eat food while wearing a mask by using the mask they are wearing and paper napkins placed in the store, and released it on YouTube (https://youtu.be/IebwbtGUti0) on the 7th.

The method introduced by the company involves placing the mask on top of a napkin and folding the mask in half while wearing it. In this case, the mask only covers the nose and does not cover the mouth.

If you slightly tilt your head forward, the napkin stretches vertically, creating a space between the mouth and the napkin, allowing you to insert a spoon through this gap to eat food.

However, watching the demonstration, the napkin can stick to the mouth, requiring the person to lift the napkin with their hand to drink a beverage. Since the mask does not fully cover the mouth, some analyses suggest that the droplet blocking effect may not be significant compared to the inconvenience.

In fact, Saizeriya disabled the comment function on the video, but related articles received cynical responses. Netizens commented, "This is not mandatory, right? If it is mandatory, I will never go (to Saizeriya)," and "The spoon touches the mask."

On the other hand, there were also reactions like, "This is cool. This mask will save Japan."
