Korea Railroad Corporation sent an emergency disaster message at around 7:06 a.m. on the 8th stating, "Train operations departing from and arriving at Gwangju Station have all been suspended due to the flooding of Wolgokcheon Bridge on the Gwangju Line."
Due to the heavy rain over two days starting the previous day, train operations on five trains across three sections in Gwangju and Jeonnam have been suspended: Suncheon~Gwangju Songjeong (trains 1973, 1974, 1971, 1972), Suncheon~Jangseong (train 1442), and Suncheon~Mokpo (trains 1951, 1954).
Strong rain continues for consecutive days in Gwangju and Jeonnam. According to the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration's bulletin, since the heavy rain warning was issued for Gwangju and Jeonnam the previous day, the cumulative rainfall as of 7:10 a.m. on the day is as follows: Damyang 430.5 mm, Pungsan (Sunchang) 422.5 mm, Gwangju 399.6 mm, Jangseong 375 mm, Hwasun Buk-myeon 372.5 mm, Gokseong 356 mm, Baemsagol (Namwon) 343 mm, and Jinan 295.5 mm.
The Meteorological Administration stated, "There may be very heavy rain accompanied by strong winds, thunder, and lightning mainly in the southern regions, so please pay special attention to facility management, flooding in low-lying areas, and traffic safety on rainy roads."
