[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] On the 7th, Kim Tae-nyeon, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, proposed to the United Future Party the formation of a special parliamentary committee on emergency economic measures for economic recovery.

At the Supreme Council meeting that day, Floor Leader Kim said, "The economy should not be a subject of political strife, and political cooperation is very important to win the all-out battle to revive the economy," proposing this.

He added, "Based on safer and faster quarantine achievements than other countries, we must create a model case for overcoming the economic crisis and stand tall as a global leading country," and said, "This is not a matter for political conflict. I urge the opposition party to move away from the boycott and time-wasting strategies of June and July and to engage in bipartisan cooperation for economic recovery."

He continued, "The Speaker of the National Assembly also proposed a parliamentary economic special committee for overcoming COVID-19 in the opening speech," and said, "I hope that consumption, investment, regional economic revitalization, and regulatory innovation legislation will be discussed promptly in the Emergency Economic Special Committee."

Floor Leader Kim also said, "Reviving domestic consumption is an urgent task. In a situation where export uncertainties have increased due to the resurgence of COVID-19, the key to economic recovery is domestic demand," and "I urge the government to promptly implement consumption coupons in eight major sectors such as lodging, tourism, dining out, and agricultural products, prepared through the third supplementary budget."

He then stated, "Large-scale investment in companies must also be activated," and "I hope that the supplementary measures for the integrated investment tax credit plan announced last July will be reviewed to ensure timely corporate investment, and that field opinions will be actively collected."

Regarding the strike by medical residents opposing the policy to expand medical school quotas, Floor Leader Kim said, "It is regrettable that the medical community is opposing policies to strengthen medical publicness through collective action," and "It is undesirable that medical residents in essential medical fields such as emergency rooms, intensive care units, and operating rooms are also participating in collective sickouts."

He added, "I hope the Medical Association withdraws the strike plan and participates in dialogue," and said, "Under no circumstances should there be any gaps in medical care that cause harm to the public."
