User-Centered Content Reorganization and Latest Web Trend Integration Opened...Expert Staff Developed Directly to Save Hundreds of Millions in Development Costs
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) has revamped and opened its self-developed 'Gangdong-gu Big Data Portal' with a user-centered, high-quality web design that reflects content rearrangement and the latest web trends, making it more convenient for a larger number of residents to use.
The 'Gangdong-gu Big Data Portal (hereafter GBP)' has built a meta-information database, enabling simple integrated search functions within a single system, and supports both mobile and PC use, allowing users to easily access information anytime and anywhere without location restrictions.
To respond to new era environments such as the 4th Industrial Revolution, the district expanded and reorganized the Electronic Information Division into the Smart City Promotion Team in July last year, and established a Big Data Team by assigning personnel through an internal recruitment.
This was to realize data-driven scientific administration and lay the foundation for a smart city.
In particular, in January, an assigned staff member directly developed the GBP system that can integrate and manage scattered data from various institutions (Statistics Korea, Ministry of the Interior and Safety, etc.), which had been a common issue for all local governments.
This achievement saved development costs worth hundreds of millions of won and won the Excellence Award in the Innovation Policy category at the ‘2020 Seoul Creative Awards’ hosted by Seoul City last May.
With this revamp, the portal enhanced information accessibility by configuring a wide screen and various menu access routes, and arranging content into five sections (Main, Notifications, Services, Media, Links). Frequently used services by category are placed as shortcut icons to improve user convenience.
Additionally, visualized materials such as automatic aggregation and automatic charts are provided to make it easy to grasp the information at a glance, increasing understanding and convenience.
Moreover, trends by year can also be viewed, enabling its use as an objective indicator to predict future changes.
Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, “We will continuously improve the Gangdong-gu Big Data Portal so that anyone can use it conveniently, and solve residents’ inconveniences through big data self-analysis utilizing the portal.”
