Seoul Orchestra to Hold 'Ieum Concert' with Artists with Disabilities

[Asia Economy Reporter Sim Nayoung] The Seoul Orchestra Corporation will hold the 2020 'Ieum Concert' with artists with disabilities on September 2nd at 7:30 PM at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts Grand Theater. Marking its fifth year, the Ieum Concert is a performance that conveys social support and encouragement for people with disabilities through the language of music.

Starting with the 'Gyeonggibyeong Overture' conducted by Seoul Orchestra's full-time conductor Kwon Jooyong, flutist Kang Chorong will perform 'Carmen Fantasy,' which captures the tragic ending of the opera. Following this, 'At the Persian Market,' featuring exotic Persian folk rhythms, will be played, and visually impaired violinist Kim Jonghoon will conclude the first part with the famous piece 'Zigeunerweisen,' which expresses the unique melancholy of Gypsy culture.

In the second part, visually impaired marimbist Jeon Kyungho will present the melody of Saint-Sa?ns' 'Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso,' a representative repertoire for violinists, and violinist Kim Sunhee will perform composer Bruch's most famous violin concerto, 'Violin Concerto No. 1.'

Next, tenor Kang Murim will sing 'Convey My Words to Her,' a famous Italian art song, and 'The Pioneer,' a song depicting the image of an old pioneer riding across the Manchurian plains. Finally, the concert will conclude with 'In the Hall of the Mountain King' from the Peer Gynt Suite, depicting the scene where a loud bell sound causes the trolls to scatter.

The Seoul Orchestra is a Ministry of Employment and Labor certified social enterprise that donates 30% of its seats to vulnerable groups, giving back to society through music. Kim Heejun, director of the Seoul Orchestra, said, "Through this 'Ieum Concert,' we hope to improve awareness of people with disabilities by fostering empathy and communication through music among both disabled and non-disabled audiences," adding, "We hope this will be an opportunity to prove the infinite potential of the arts genre to express equal capabilities regardless of disability through the moving collaboration with artists with disabilities."

This performance is hosted and organized by the Seoul Orchestra and supported by Asia Economy, KDB Industrial Bank, Hana Bank, Asia Economy, Shinsung University, DHM Plus, Cheonwoo Law Firm, Tefax, and the Seoul Orchestra Support Association. Ticket prices are 100,000 KRW for R seats, 50,000 KRW for S seats, 30,000 KRW for A seats, and 20,000 KRW for B seats. A 50% discount is applied to national merit recipients and people with disabilities, with the special provision that people with disabilities receive the same discount for one accompanying person regardless of disability grade.
