Gunsan City Identifies 21 Businesses Violating Environmental Pollution Regulations Gunsan City Hall

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jae-hee] Gunsan City, Jeonbuk Province, has launched inspections of pollutant-emitting businesses to ensure the environmental safety of its citizens.

On the 6th, the city announced that according to the integrated inspection plan established earlier this year, it conducted inspections of a total of 100 business sites by last month and identified and took action against 21 businesses violating environmental laws.

The main types of violations included operating emission facilities without permits (unreported), improper operation of prevention facilities, unauthorized discharge of wastewater, and exceeding emission standards for environmental pollutants.

The city plans to take legal action against 8 violating businesses, while administrative measures such as suspension or closure orders (3 cases), work stoppages (6 cases), improvement orders (6 cases), warnings, and fines (6 cases) were imposed on 13 others.

To ensure transparency and objectivity of inspections, the city conducted joint inspections with related organizations such as the Jeonbuk Provincial Government on major complaint-inducing businesses. In addition to inspection activities, the city established a monitoring system to prevent environmental pollution in advance through nighttime patrols in areas at risk of water pollution and an illegal fine dust emission prevention monitoring team.

Furthermore, a special inspection team was formed to monitor major odor-causing businesses in industrial complexes, conducting odor monitoring frequently during vulnerable times such as holidays and nighttime. Administrative actions were taken against businesses exceeding emission standards based on inspection results, establishing a prevention and monitoring system for odors within the jurisdiction.

Cha Seong-gyu, Director of the Environmental Policy Division, stated, “We will continue to do our best to ensure that citizens can live in a pleasant environment through ongoing guidance and inspections of pollutant-emitting businesses and prevention and monitoring of environmental pollution activities.”
