[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Ji-hee] Among the new car models released by domestic automakers in the first half of this year, the model that garnered the most attention was the 'Genesis GV80,' according to a recent survey.
The Global Big Data Research Institute announced on the 6th that it conducted a survey on consumer interest and favorability for eight new domestic car models that were newly released or facelifted (partial redesign) during the first half of 2020. The survey compared the total online information volume (consumer interest, number of posts) over the past month for models including Hyundai Motor Company's 7th generation Avante, premium brand Genesis's GV80 and G80, Kia Motors' 4th generation Sorento and Morning Urban, GM Korea's Trailblazer, and Renault Samsung Motors' Captur and XM3.
According to the survey, the Genesis GV80 was the only model to exceed 10,000 total information volume, recording 14,093 posts and ranking first. It was followed by the Sorento with 9,812 posts and the Genesis G80 with 9,032 posts. The All-New Avante recorded 7,951 posts, Renault Samsung's XM3 5,229 posts, and the Chevrolet Trailblazer ranked sixth with 4,800 posts.
Among the eight new cars, the vehicle with the highest consumer favorability was the 'Captur.' The Captur's positive rate was 43.5%, and the negative rate was 8.4%, resulting in a 'net favorability' (positive rate minus negative rate) of 35.1%. The second highest net favorability was the Genesis G80 at 30.4%, followed by the Morning Urban at 28.5%, XM3 at 23.7%, All-New Avante at 17.7%, and Genesis GV80 at 14.1%.
Kia's Sorento had a net favorability of 3.5%, placing it 7th, narrowly ahead of the lowest-ranked Chevrolet Trailblazer. A representative from the institute stated, "The single-digit net favorability scores for the new Sorento and Trailblazer appear to be influenced by some defect controversies."
Meanwhile, the institute surveyed the total online information volume across 12 channels from the 1st to the 31st of last month, including news, communities, blogs, cafes, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, KakaoStory, Knowledge iN, companies and organizations, and government and public sectors.
