President No Tae-moon Responds Directly to Fold2 S Pen Inclusion Rumors
"Aware of S Pen Interest... Will Continue Listening to Customer Feedback"
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Among the Galaxy 5 series unveiled at the Unpacked event, the clear center of attention was the 'Galaxy Z Fold2'.
On the 5th, Samsung Electronics held Galaxy Unpacked 2020 and introduced ▲Galaxy Note20 ▲Galaxy Z Fold2 ▲Galaxy Tab S7 ▲Galaxy Watch3 ▲Galaxy Buds Live ▲Galaxy Watch3. The price and detailed specifications of the Galaxy Z Fold2 will be revealed on September 1, and pre-orders will begin globally from the 2nd.
The Galaxy Z Fold2 sparked curiosity as detailed information was not disclosed until just before the Unpacked event. Various rumors circulated, ranging from the inclusion of the S Pen to it being undisclosed. During the Q&A session with President No Tae-moon at the end of the Unpacked event, a question was raised about why the Galaxy Z Fold2 does not support the S Pen.
In response, No Tae-moon, Head of the Wireless Business Division (President), said that they are providing a unique experience exclusive to the Fold. President No explained, "The S Pen is the most beloved feature of the Note, but we are pleased to see people interested in the functions of foldable phones," adding, "The Z Fold2 has its own unique features and is an exclusive product optimized for its form factor. We will continuously reflect customer feedback."
The main screen of the Galaxy Z Fold2 has increased to 7.6 inches, larger than its predecessor. The front camera has also changed to a punch-hole design, giving a more comfortable viewing experience. (Source=Galaxy Unpacked capture)
The Galaxy Z Fold2 inherits the large screen of its predecessor, the Fold, while incorporating the screen durability and hinge technology of the Z Flip. With thinner bezels, the screen has become larger. The cover screen is 6.2 inches, and the main screen is 7.6 inches. The foldable display material uses the same UTG as the Z Flip. The thickness is 6mm, and the battery capacity is 4500mAh. It will be released in two colors: Mystic Black and Bronze.
The notch on the right side of the main screen of the Galaxy Z Fold2 has disappeared, and the front camera is embedded within the screen. Like the Galaxy Note20, the rear cameras are arranged vertically, with a rear triple camera setup (64MP, 12MP, 12MP) and a 10MP front camera expected. The domestic retail price is likely to be around 2.3 million KRW.
A premium package 'Galaxy Z Fold2 Thom Browne Edition', created in collaboration with Thom Browne, will also be introduced. It consists of three items: the Galaxy Z Fold2, Galaxy Watch3, and Galaxy Buds Live, featuring Thom Browne's signature gray background with tricolor stripes design. The price is expected to be in the 4 million KRW range.
