[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hong Jaehee] The Jeonju Daesaseupnori National Competition, the highest gateway in the field of traditional Korean music, gains more significance this year as it will be held at Jeolla Gamyeong.

On the 5th, Jeonju City and the Daesaseupnori Organizing Committee announced that the finals of the "46th Jeonju Daesaseupnori National Competition" and the "38th Jeonju Daesaseupnori Student National Competition" will be held over two days, October 11 and 12, around Jeolla Gamyeong and Jeonju Hanok Village.

The Jeonju Daesaseupnori originally started at Jeolla Gamyeong. It began when Jeolla Gamyeong and Jeonju-bu (全州府)'s Tongincheong (通引廳) each invited Pansori masters to compete in skills to find outstanding masters.

The Jeonju Daesaseupnori National Competition held at Jeolla Gamyeong will select the top traditional Korean musicians in Korea across 13 categories: Pansori masters, Nongak, instrumental music, dance, folk songs, Gayageum Byeongchang, general Pansori, Sijo, archery, new Pansori, new folk songs, new dance, and new Gobeop.

Prior to the main competition, preliminary rounds will be held from the 6th to the 25th of next month at Jeonju Cheonyangjeong, Jeonju Sori Culture Center, Jeonju Deokjin Arts Center, Korea Traditional Culture Center, Jeonju Hyanggyo, and Jeolla Gamyeong.

Also, the Daesaseupnori Student National Competition will discover young talents in traditional Korean music across nine categories: Pansori, Nongak, wind instruments, string instruments, dance, folk songs, Gayageum Byeongchang, Sijo, and elementary Pansori.

The grand prize winner of the Pansori master division, which boasts the highest prestige in Korea, will receive the Presidential Award along with a prize of 50 million won.

Song Jaeyoung, the organizing committee chairman, said, "We will devote ourselves to ensuring transparency and fairness during the judging process."

Choi Rakgi, Director of the Culture, Tourism and Sports Bureau, said, "This Jeonju Daesaseupnori National Competition is meaningful as it will be held again at Jeolla Gamyeong where it originally started," adding, "We will thoroughly prepare to make it a successful competition venue for masters and renowned performers."
