Gyeonggi-do Launches Initiative to Train Workforce for Data Industry

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province is launching a customized data industry workforce training program.

Gyeonggi Province announced on the 5th that it is recruiting trainees until the 31st of this month for the "2020 Customized Data Industry Workforce Training 2nd Course," which will begin on the 7th of next month.

The recruitment targets include the in-service course (2nd session, 20 people) held in Uijeongbu and the data processing and handling course for the general public (30 people) held at the Seongnam Pangyo Global R&D Center.

The training will be conducted over two weeks from the 7th to the 18th of next month. Residents wishing to participate can apply for the course on the website (http://www.ggdata.co.kr) by the 31st of this month.

In particular, the data processing and handling course reflects the demand from data preprocessing companies in the province and consists of tagging training to identify de-identified data, basic data analysis, visualization, and other programs designed to enable data non-experts (general public, career interrupters, etc.) to easily participate in the digital new business ecosystem.

The big data specialized high school course has been underway since the 29th of last month for current students of Korea Digital Media High School. Next month, it will be conducted for students of Yangyoung Digital High School.

The province is currently conducting three courses: ▲Expert Course ▲In-service Course (1st session) ▲Specialized Course (Specialized High School).

In all training courses, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, disinfection of lecture rooms, placement of hand sanitizers, and temperature checks at least twice a day are being implemented, and the training is conducted offline.

Lim Moon-young, Director of Future Growth Policy at the province, emphasized, "The development of the data industry must be accompanied by the creation of new jobs, and educational opportunities in practical fields such as data processing and preprocessing, as well as professional and advanced analysts, are important. We will do our best to lay the foundation for opening the era of the data economy."
