Support for Installing '4 Types of Safety Kits' in 100 Households per Woman and 'Safety Bells' in 20 Stores per Woman
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jeong Won-oh) is supporting safety devices for single female households and single female-run stores to create an environment where women can live and do business with peace of mind.
In May, the district applied for the Seoul Metropolitan Government’s 2020 Women’s Safe Village project and was finally selected for the "Women Single Household SS Zone (Safe Single Zone) Creation Project."
Accordingly, 100 single female households living in houses and one-room apartments will receive the "Safe Home 4-piece Safety Kit," and 20 stores operated solely by women will be supported with the installation of the "Safe Store Safety Bell."
To promote the project, Seongdong-gu formed a local safety governance system in cooperation with the Seongdong-gu Healthy Family and Multicultural Family Support Center and the Seongdong Police Station.
The Seongdong-gu Healthy Family and Multicultural Family Support Center was responsible for recruiting and selecting beneficiaries, supporting the installation of safety kits and emergency bells, while the Seongdong Police Station agreed to cooperate with on-site inspections and landlord cooperation during the installation of safety kits.
The "4-piece Safety Kit" installed in single female households consists of ▲a double locking device called the "front door auxiliary key," ▲a "door opening sensor" that sends a text message to acquaintances with an alarm sound when the door is opened from outside, ▲a "window locking device" that prevents unauthorized entry through windows, and ▲a "security window."
The "Safety Bell" installed in single female-run stores is a system where pressing the emergency bell in a dangerous situation allows the district’s CCTV control center to check the location and surrounding CCTV footage and request dispatch from the Seongdong Police Station in case of emergency.
The "Safe Home" support targets single female households residing in Seongdong-gu with a jeonse deposit or jeonse equivalent value (deposit + monthly rent * 100) of 200 million KRW or less. The "Safe Store" applies to stores located in Seongdong-gu operated solely by a female owner, provided the business has internet access.
Recruitment for project beneficiaries will be conducted on a first-come, first-served basis throughout August. Applicants can refer to the Seongdong-gu Healthy Family and Multicultural Family Support Center website and apply via email or mail.
After selecting beneficiaries in September, installations will proceed sequentially.
Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, "We will continue to focus on strengthening women’s safety in daily life through measures such as lending devices to check for hidden cameras, women’s safe delivery lockers, and operating safety security guards."
