According to NHK, as of 6 p.m. on the 4th, the total number of new cases reported by local governments, including 309 in Tokyo and 193 in Osaka, reached 1,214.
The daily number of cases nationwide in Japan surpassed the 1,000 mark on the 29th of last month and remained in the 1,000s for five consecutive days before dropping to the 960s the previous day, but it exceeded 1,000 again on this day. The cumulative number of confirmed cases to date is 42,144, with 1,032 deaths.
