[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] On the morning of the 4th at 10 a.m., Noh Hyun-song, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, held a countermeasure meeting against the rainy season and heatwave in the large conference room of the district office and instructed a full-scale response to prevent damage to residents caused by the rainy season and heatwave.

The meeting was held in response to this year's rainy season continuing longer than usual, causing heavy rain and strong winds concentrated in Daejeon and Chungbuk areas following Busan and Gangwon, resulting in numerous casualties and property damage. Mayor Noh carefully reviewed the response plans for the rainy season and heatwave by each department.

Mayor Noh said, “The ground in Seoul and the metropolitan area is weakened due to frequent rain. According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the rainy season will continue until early next week, and Typhoon Hagupit, the 4th typhoon, is moving northward, with forecasts predicting even heavier rain. Therefore, concerns about disaster occurrence are higher than ever.”

He continued, “Departments responsible for facilities should strengthen patrols, focus inspections on areas vulnerable to damage such as retaining walls, embankments, cut slopes, dangerous buildings, and landslides, and maintain drainage facilities in optimal condition. Please make every effort to prevent even a single case of rain damage.”

Additionally, Mayor Noh said, “After the rainy season ends, a more severe heatwave than usual is expected, making the summer more difficult. Therefore, department heads and neighborhood chiefs should fully activate the rainy season and heatwave response systems and do their best to ensure there are no gaps in resident safety.”

In particular, he said, “Please pay close attention to vulnerable groups such as the elderly by preparing various methods so they can avoid the heat nearby.”
