Covering Basic Financial Knowledge, Types of Financial Damage, Prevention, and Response Methods
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Kyum-soo) held a non-face-to-face youth financial life education session on July 31 for 61 university students working summer vacation part-time jobs.
This education was prepared to help young people develop proper consumption habits, prevent financial fraud damage, and cultivate financial management skills.
The instructor in charge of the course was Kim Young-jae, director of the Social Cooperative Youth Wallet Training Center. The center carries out various support projects to solve youth debt and financial problems based on financial education and counseling.
The lecture was divided into morning and afternoon sessions. The morning lecture covered basic financial knowledge such as savings, investment, and insurance to help participants manage their finances appropriately.
In the afternoon, the session dealt with types of financial damage such as voice phishing, smishing, proxy deposits, and work loans, along with prevention and response methods.
The district conducted the education through a real-time video lecture program to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
Additionally, the participants were divided into two groups and asked in advance to choose their preferred session to adjust the schedule. This measure was taken to guarantee students' choice and avoid overlapping work and lecture hours. It is also evaluated that the issue of decreased concentration due to continuous attendance raised after last year's education was addressed.
After the class, the district conducted a survey of all participants. The survey results will be reflected in future financial programs planned for youth.
Park Kyum-soo, mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “Through this education, we expect students preparing to enter society to develop the ability to prepare for the future,” and added, “We will continue to discover and promote policies that provide practical help to young people.”
