1789 Disaster-Vulnerable Households Including Basic Livelihood Security Recipients, Lower-Income Groups, Mobility-Impaired Elderly Living Alone, and Persons with Disabilities
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Kyum-soo) has rolled up its sleeves to improve residential living facilities for safety-vulnerable households with a high risk of accidents.
The district announced that it will conduct safety inspections and provide free facility maintenance for 1,789 disaster-vulnerable households, including those at risk of fire, gas leaks, and electric shocks. This measure aims to prevent disaster accidents by preemptively replacing aging living facilities and to improve the housing safety net for low-income groups.
Previously, the district conducted a full survey of households at high risk of disaster accidents through each community service center and selected support targets. Priority was given to low-income groups such as basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty groups, with the scope expanded to include elderly living alone with mobility difficulties and households with disabled members.
To enable prompt, field-centered responses, related organizations also participated in the project. Experts in electricity, gas, firefighting, and boilers are visiting the respective households. They focus on maintaining circuit breakers, gas timers, boiler packing, and indoor wiring conditions to prevent household fire accidents in advance.
Additionally, the district plans to support firefighting equipment such as fire alarms and extinguishers and carefully inspect and replace aging parts of gas and boilers. Proper usage methods of living facilities and safety education will be provided, and an emergency reporting manual will also be distributed.
Park Kyum-soo, Mayor of Gangbuk-gu, said, “This project is expected to contribute to preventing disaster accidents by proactively maintaining poor essential living facilities,” adding, “We will continue to carry out maintenance and support for vulnerable households to eliminate safety blind spots and risk factors.”
