[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kang Sharon] The Mayor of Changwon visited the site of the 'Second Anmin Tunnel Construction Project' and emphasized to the officials the necessity of early opening.
The early opening of the Second Anmin Tunnel is Mayor Heo's flagship pledge. Although the construction had been stalled due to insufficient compensation funds, the full compensation amount (19.7 billion KRW) has been secured, and compensation negotiations have been completed, allowing the construction to proceed smoothly.
Originally planned to open in March 2023, efforts are being accelerated to complete the construction by December 2021.
The key to early opening is the prompt completion of the cultural heritage excavation survey.
The cultural heritage excavation survey is currently underway in the tunnel starting section (Seokdong IC), and construction in this section can proceed only after the excavation survey is completed.
The city has established a cooperative system with the Busan Regional Land Management Office, cultural heritage investigation agencies, and the construction company to ensure the cultural heritage survey is completed as soon as possible.
Mayor Heo Seong-mu of Changwon emphasized, “Early opening of the tunnel is essential to alleviate traffic congestion during commuting hours in the existing Anmin Tunnel. We will spare no administrative support to ensure the prompt completion of the cultural heritage survey.”
